The TLCR crew is in Waynesville, NC today to tackle a restoration job that will include carpentry repairs.
Oseas, is the crew leader for this job, and as always the crew sets out to get the cabin ready for the restoration process. The crew will begin by clearing the decks of any outdoor furniture, and any wall decorations that might hang on the building.
The gutter down spouts are removed foe easy access to the corners of the home, and all exterior lighting will be covered with plastic and taped to prevent a short when power washing.
Mike, the Total Log Cabin Restoration’s master carpenter has been called in for some carpentry repairs. Mike will replace about 70 feet of log rot, 40 feet of window trim, 6 feet top rail on the deck, and 18 feet of dormer on the shed.
After stripping all the old stain, the crew proceeds with the usual process. First, all the logs are rinsed with a neutralizer. This will de-activate any stripping agent left on the logs. A must before applying any new stain.
The logs are sanded to remove the stubble caused from the power washer, as well as, any old stain that was not stripped. The sanding also provides a smooth and uniform surface for the new stain application.
This log home will also receive a full caulking between the logs, around the windows, and doors. This log home will receive two coats of TWP California Cedar.
Our two story log home is complete and it’s stunning.
