Today, the boys are in Cowpens, SC to repair and restore Louisa’s log home. Mike, the company’s master carpenter is on site to replace 24 feet of log rot. While Mike begins removing the rotted out logs, the crew will prepare the log home for restoration.
Marco is the crew leader and he gets the crew started on the preparation process. As with all the restoration jobs, the decks are cleared, and all furniture is removed, The gutter downspouts are also removed to protect them from stain as well as an easy access to the corner. of the home. All the exterior lighting will also be covered and taped to protect and prevent electrical shortage.
After all the preparation has been completed, the crew begins coating the logs with a stripping agent. The stripper is allowed to work its magic. Twenty minutes later, the stripping agent is washed off with the pressure washer. A member will then apply neutralizer to de-activate the stripper agent.
On day two, after a night of drying time, the crew will sand down the logs to smooth the surface. This will give the logs a uniform look, as well as, prepare the surface for the new stain.
On the third day, the crew will inspect the caulking and replace as needed. The doors, windows are also inspected, and re-caulked in areas that are needed.
Finally, Louisa’s log home is ready to be re-coated. The stain of choice here is, TWP, California Cedar. The log cabin will receive two coats, as well as the deck and rails.
