Log Cabin Restoration in Valdese NC, Burke County

The Total Log Cabin Restoration crew is back in North Carolina. This time the crew is in the town of Valdese, Burke County. Today the crew will be visiting Steve C. Steve’s cabin is a maintenance restoration.

There are no damaged logs for repairs needed on this job. The crew will clean the home and re-coat the logs with fresh stain. As always the crew will prepare the cabin and surrounding grounds for a total restoration job. The downspouts will be removed to prevent damage and get better access to the corner of the cabin. Next he’ll cover and tape up the exterior lights for their protection, and finally, the flower beds and shrubs will be covered with drop cloths.

Armando, the team leader, will power was the home with bleach assuring the logs are free from mold and mildew. Before any new stain is applied, a borax treatment will be applied to all the logs, deck, and rails. A fresh treatment of borax never hurts in the prevention of wood eating insects.

Next, the crew will inspect the cabin’s caulking and replace any that may be loose or missing from bad weather conditions. The crew double checks around windows to make sure the caulking has a tight seal. This is important to prevent heat or cooling escape, which will end in higher energy cost.

Finally, the cabin is re-coated with, Sikkens Gloss 077, and the rails are re-coated with the same color, but in a matte finish.
