Today, The Total Log Cabin Restoration crew is in Gary Court SC, located in Laurens County. Today the crew will start with the repairs needed on the cabin. Mike, our carpenter, has estimated about 17 feet of log rot that needs to be replaced. As Mike works on removing the rotten log, the other crew members will prep the cabin and surrounding grounds for stripping the old stain.
As always the crew will remove the downspouts to prevent damage and get better access to the corner of the cabin. Next he’ll cover and tape up the exterior lights for their protection, and finally, the flower beds and shrubs will be covered with drop cloths.
With preparations complete, the cabin is ready for restoration. A stripping agent is applied to the logs and the chemicals begin to work its magic. The stripper is then washed off using a power washer set at 800 PSI. the low setting has no trouble washing off the stripper, but at the same time, it’s not strong enough to damage the logs and trim. After rinsing all the logs, a neutralizer is applied to all the logs, deck, and rails to ensure the stripping agent is disabled.
The crew will now sand down the logs removing any old stain and smoothing the logs from the harsh power washer. The smoothed out logs will create a uniform surface that will allow the application of the stain to also be uniform. But before the stain can be applied, A Borax treatment will be applied to the logs to fight off wood eating insects.
The caulking is inspected and reinforce by adding new caulking as needed. The customer selected TWP-Gold for the cabin and trim color. Two coats of stain is applied and this restoration is complete.
Here is what the customer had to say:
The work was excellent, the crew were alway courteous and professional, they even cleaned my windows at the end of the job.
