The Total Log Cabin Restoration team is out in Blowing Rock NC. The team is ready to tackle a new restoration project, and as always, they begin the process with preparing the cabin and surrounding grounds.

Armando is the crew leader, and he doesn’t waist any time. Armando directs his crew to remove the gutter downspouts then, tape and cover all the exterior lights. The crew will cover all the vegetation around the cabin to protect the owners flower beds and shrubs from the power washer and stripper agent that will be used to remove the old stain.

On day one, Armando, begins the stripping process. This will take a full day to strip all four sides of this log home, and will include applying a neutralizer to prevent the stripping agent from being active, and a Borate pest control treatment is applied to control wood eating insects.

On day two, after an overnight drying, the logs are then sanded down to smooth out the surface and provide a uniform base for the new stain application. The log, windows, and doors are inspected for loose and missing caulking, and replaced with new.

With no carpentry work needed on this job, the cabin is ready for the new stain application. This cabin will be re-coated using TWP California Cedar. The first coat will be applied on day three, and the second coat will be applied on day four.
