The skilled team from Total Log Cabin Restoration is currently stationed in Hillsborough, NC, within Orange County, attending to the task of repairing, stripping, and re-coating Deana D's log residence. Prior to commencing the restoration procedure, our proficient carpenter, Mike, will diligently complete all necessary carpentry repairs required for this log home.
Leading the crew for this particular project is Marco, who initiates the preparatory phase. As customary for all restoration projects, the decks are cleared, and furniture is relocated. Moreover, the gutter downspouts are detached to shield them from staining and facilitate access to the corner of the house. Additionally, all exterior lighting fixtures are securely covered and taped to prevent damage and minimize the risk of electrical malfunctions.
During the initial day, the crew applies a stripping agent to coat the logs. After allowing sufficient time for the stripper to work its magic, it is subsequently rinsed off using a pressure washer. To neutralize the effects of the stripping agent, a team member applies a neutralizer.
The following day, after allowing ample time for the logs to dry overnight, the crew proceeds with sanding to achieve a smooth surface. This process not only grants the logs a uniform appearance but also prepares the surface for the application of a fresh stain.
Once the sanding is complete, a Borate treatment is administered to safeguard the logs and trim from wood-devouring insects.
On the third day, once the log home has sufficiently dried, a thorough inspection of all caulking, including window and door frames, is conducted. Any areas in need of fresh caulking are promptly addressed.
Additionally, our expert carpenter, Mike, has been enlisted to replace two deteriorated log ends.
The cabin is now primed for the application of the new stain. For this particular cabin, we have chosen to utilize TWP Butternut for the staining process. The first coat will be administered on the third day, followed by the application of the second coat on the fourth day.
