Today the team is here to restore the log home owned by a Mrs. Torrey K. This will be a full restoration and this team will be lead by Armando.
As with every restoration job, preparation is key to a successful restoration. The crew gets started on the preparation by clearing the decks of all furniture and any exterior decorations. The gutter downspouts are also removed to protect them from stain as well as an easy access to the corner. of the home, And finally the exterior lighting are covered and taped to protect and prevent electrical shortage.
Once the preparation is complete, the cleaning and stripping of the old stain product begins. The stripping agent is applied and will remain on the surface for about 20 minutes. This is plenty of time to allow the stripper to dissolve and break down the old product. After 20 minutes, the stripping agent will be rinsed off with the power washer. Following the power wash, another crew member will apply a neutralizer, this will deactivate any stripper left behind.
On the following day, after a good nights drying time, the crew are back to sand down the logs. The sanding will remover any old product the stripper missed, as well as smooth out the logs from the harsh power washing.
Following the sanding, the logs are then treated with a Borate treatment, this will help prevent wood eating insects that are the cause of most log damage. The crew will also inspect for bee holes and will treat and plug.
Our master carpenter will remove and replace eight feet of deck boards, eight feet of bottom rails and finally four spindles.
Finally the log home is ready for stain. Torrey has chosen Sikkens Cetol Log and Siding Cedar. The crew will apply one coat, as that is all that is needed. The trim, windows and door trim has also been coated with the same product.
