Today the Total Log Cabin Restoration crew is in the state of Georgia where they have teamed up with Southland Log Homes, SLH is a log home manufacture and can be found in many of the East coast states as well as Texas, Indiana, and Tennessee.
Armando and his team will restore one of Southland’s model homes, and upon reaching the model site, the crew gets started on the preparation process. As with all the restoration jobs, the decks are cleared, and all furniture is removed, The gutter downspouts are also removed to protect them from stain as well as an easy access to the corner. of the home, All the exterior lighting will also be covered and taped to protect and prevent electrical shortage.
On the first day, the crew coats the logs with a stripping agent. The stripper is allowed to work its magic. Twenty minutes later, the stripping agent is washed off with the pressure washer. A member will then apply neutralizer to de-activate the stripper agent.
On the following day, after a night of drying time, the crew will sand down the logs to smooth the surface. This will give the logs a uniform look, as well as, prepare the surface for the new stain.
On the third day, the crew will inspect the caulking and replace as needed. The doors, windows are also inspected, and re-caulked in areas that are needed.
The cabin is now ready for its first coat of stain. TWP California Red is the color choice and will get its second coat, on the following day.
