The Total Log Cabin Restoration team is currently working in Orange County, Hillsborough, NC to restore, strip, and re-coat Thomas P's log residence. This particular log home requires some carpentry work, and our skilled master carpenter, Mike, will ensure that all necessary repairs are completed before commencing the restoration process.

Leading the crew for this project is Marco, who promptly initiates the preparation procedures. As is customary for all restoration jobs, the decks are cleared and all furniture is removed. Additionally, the gutter downspouts are taken off to shield them from stain and allow easy access to the corners of the house. Furthermore, the exterior lighting is meticulously covered and taped to safeguard against damage and prevent electrical shortages.

On the initial day, the crew applies a stripping agent to coat the logs. This powerful solution is given time to work its magic. After twenty minutes, the stripping agent is thoroughly washed off using a pressure washer. Subsequently, a member of the team applies a neutralizer to deactivate the effects of the stripping agent.

The following day, after allowing the logs to dry overnight, the crew proceeds to sand down the surface, resulting in a smooth and uniform appearance. This step not only enhances the aesthetics of the logs but also prepares the surface for the upcoming application of the new stain.

Once the sanding process is completed, a Borate treatment is administered to protect the logs and potential trim from wood-eating insects that could cause damage.

On the third day, after the log home has had sufficient time to dry, the crew conducts a comprehensive inspection of all the caulking, including the window and door frames. Any areas requiring fresh caulking will receive the necessary attention and application.

With the cabin now fully prepared, it is ready for the application of the new stain. This log cabin will be enriched with two coats of TWP California Cedar. The first coat will be meticulously applied on the third day, followed by the application of the second coat on the fourth day.
