Today The Total Log Cabin Restoration crew is in New Bern, NC Craven County to clean and re-coat Woody W log cabin. The log cabin is dry and very weathered, as seen in the before images below.

William is the crew leader for this job, and the crew gets started on the preparation process. This is a small log cabin, so the prep work is easy and fast. No decks to clear or gutter downspouts to remove All the exterior lighting will also be covered and taped to protect and prevent electrical shortage.

This is a partial restoration, a maintenance cleaning and re-coat. Because we are not doing a full restoration, there is no need to strip off old product. the crew will be doing a full cleaning. The Total Log Cabin Restoration crew uses a three part cleaning agent that fights mold and mildew, as well as removes dirt and grime from the logs. The cleaning solution is applied with a sprayer, then rinsed with a pressure washing using only 800 psi. The low pressure will not damage logs.

The day after cleaning, and when the log cabin has had a chance to dry, the crew will inspect all the caulking, including the window and door frames. Fresh caulking will be applied where it is needed. The crew will also sand down the logs to create a smooth surface foe a uniform look when stain is applied.

This log home is now ready to re-coat. The crew will apply one coat of TWP Gold, And as an added measure of protection, the crew adds Bee Gone to the stain. This product is a treatment to combat against beetles and other insects that attack and eat the wood.
