The Total Log Cabin Restoration crew is in South Carolina this week in Winnsboro, Fairfield County. Today the crew will begin the restoration process of this beautiful two story log home.
Armando will be leading this crew this week, and as always, the crew will begin by prepping the log home for cleaning and stripping the old stain product from the logs. Just like our previous restoration jobs, the decks are cleared, and all furniture is removed, The gutter downspouts are also removed to protect them from stain as well as an easy access to the corners of the home. All the exterior lighting will also be covered and taped to protect and prevent electrical shortage.
On the first day, the crew begins the stripping process by coating the logs with a stripping agent. The stripper is allowed to work its magic. Twenty minutes later, the stripping agent is washed off with the pressure washer. Once the logs have been rinsed thoroughly, a crew member will then apply neutralizer to de-activate any strip agent left behind.
On the following day, after the log home has had an opportunity to dry, the crew will sand down the logs to smooth the surface. This will give the logs a uniform look, as well as, prepare the surface for the new stain.
On the third day, the logs are treated with a Borate treatment to combat any wood eating insects. The crew will inspect the caulking and replace as needed. The doors, windows are also inspected, and re-caulked in areas that are needed.
With no carpentry work needed on this job, the cabin is ready for the new stain application. This cabin will be re-coated using TWP Russet Brown. The first coat will be applied on day three, and the second coat will be applied on day four.
