The team from Total Log Cabin Restoration has arrived in Pinnacle, NC, located in Stokes County, to undertake the meticulous process of stripping, and re-coating Mike B's log home.
William, serving as the crew leader, wastes no time in initiating the preparation phase. As is customary for their restoration projects, the crew diligently clears the decks and removes all furniture. Additionally, they take down the gutter downspouts to shield them from staining and facilitate easy access to the home's corners. All exterior lighting fixtures are carefully covered and taped to safeguard them against damage and potential electrical issues.
On the initial day of work, the crew will remove the old stain product by means of media blasting the logs.
The following day, after allowing sufficient time for drying, the team meticulously sands down the logs to achieve a smooth surface, ensuring a uniform appearance and preparing the surface for the forthcoming stain application. To safeguard against wood-eating insects, a Borate treatment is meticulously applied to the logs and trim.
On the third day, with the log home adequately dried, the crew conducts a comprehensive inspection of all caulking, including window and door frames, applying fresh caulking wherever necessary.
Finally, the cabin is primed for the application of the new stain. Perma-Chink Dark Honey, and clear Coat Gloss. The Deck will be coated in TWP Gold. The first coat is applied on day three, with the second coat following suit on day four.
