The Total Log Cabin Restoration team has arrived in Sutherland, VA, Dinwiddie County, to media blast strip and re-coat Johnathan S’s log home. The home will need some carpentry work, and Mike H. will do all the repairs. Mike will remove and replace twelve feet of log rot.
Ismael is leading the crew on this project, and they quickly begin the preparation process. As with every restoration, the decks are cleared and all outdoor furniture is removed. The gutter downspouts are detached to prevent staining and to allow easier access to the corners of the house. All exterior lighting fixtures will be covered and taped to protect them from damage during media blasting.
On the first day, the crew starts by media blasting the logs to remove the old stain.
The following day, they will sand the logs to create a smooth and uniform surface, ensuring the wood is ready for the new stain application.
Once the sanding is finished, a Borate treatment is applied to safeguard the logs and trim from wood-boring insects.
On the third day, the team will inspect the caulking around the windows and doors, applying fresh caulk wherever necessary.
With the cabin prepped, it’s time for the new stain. The crew will apply TWP California Cedar, with the first coat going on the third day and the second on the fourth day.
