The Total Log Cabin Restoration crew has arrived in Halifax County, Littleton, NC, ready to breathe new life into Grey W’s cherished log home. This home doesn't need a full restoration, a thorough cleaning and re-coating will ensure it stays beautiful and well-protected. But before the cleaning process begins, William G. will take care of some carpentry repairs that is needed. William will remove and replace the trim around the windows on the sunroom, as well as one window on the driveway side. William will remove and replace four feet of soffit, and a 2x8 fascia board.
Marco, the experienced crew leader, begins the preparation process with his team. As with all restoration projects, the first step is clearing the decks and removing all furniture. To avoid any mishaps, the gutter downspouts are taken off, providing easy access to the home’s corners and protecting them from stain. Additionally, all exterior lighting is carefully covered and taped to prevent electrical shortages.
This project is a partial restoration, also known as maintenance cleaning and re-coating. Since a full restoration isn't required, there's no need to strip off old product. Instead, the crew focuses on a thorough cleaning. They use a powerful three-part cleaning agent designed to fight mold and mildew while effectively removing dirt and grime from the logs. The solution is applied with a sprayer and then rinsed off with a pressure washer set at a gentle 800 psi, ensuring no damage to the logs.
The next day, once the log home has dried, the crew conducts a detailed inspection of all caulking, including around window and door frames. Fresh caulking is applied wherever needed, ensuring a tight seal and added protection against the elements.
With the cleaning and caulking complete, the log home is now ready for its new coat. The team applies a single coat of Sashco Natural and clear coat, a high-quality finish that enhances the home’s natural beauty. To provide extra protection, they mix in Bee Gone, a treatment that combats beetles and other insects known to attack and damage wood.
Thanks to the meticulous work of the Total Log Cabin Restoration crew, Tim and Donna’s log home will continue to stand strong and look stunning for years to come.
