The Total Log Cabin Restoration team has arrived in Anderson County, Anderson, SC to clean and re-coat Michael H’s log home. The log home is in great condition and does not require a complete restoration, but does require some carpentry repairs.

William, the crew leader for this job, begins the preparation process with his team. As with all restoration projects, they clear the decks and remove all furniture. To protect the gutter downspouts from staining and ensure easy access to the home's corners, they remove them as well. Additionally, all exterior lighting is covered and taped to prevent electrical shortages and damage.

This project is a partial restoration, often referred to as maintenance cleaning and re-coating. Since a full restoration is not necessary, there is no need to strip off the old product. The crew will perform an extensive cleaning. They use a three-part cleaning solution that fights mold and mildew while removing dirt and grime from the logs. The solution is sprayed on, then rinsed off with a pressure washer set to 800 psi, a low pressure that prevents damage to the logs.

William will also take care of all the repairs for this project. William installs five 4x6 support post under the home. Also, William removes and replaces fifty-five feet of 2x6 top rail on the side porch.

The day after cleaning, once the log home has had time to dry, the crew will inspect all the caulking, including around the windows and doors. Fresh caulking will be applied wherever necessary.

With the log home now ready for re-coating, the crew will apply a coat of Q8 Medium Gold. To provide extra protection, they add Bee Gone to the stain. This product helps combat beetles and other insects that can damage the wood.
