Total Log Cabin received a call from a customer in Creedmoor, North Carolina. Our customer, Louis, was requesting a total restoration to his log home. During my walk around inspection with Louis, I noticed that the old stain was peeling in some places. I also pointed out to Louis that there were many spots where the stain was uneven, and in some areas, no stain at all. Of course, my recommendation was to remove all the old stain in order to prevent any product failure when applying the new stain.
As in all our restoration projects, protecting the customer's property and keeping it clean is part of our preparation. The windows, doors, lighting fixtures, and plant life around the property were all covered with plastic. Power washing the old stain from the log home can be a messy job. This is why we take the time to cover up these areas.
When the stripping is complete, a neutralizing agent is applied to deactivate the stripping agent and brighten the wood. After this process, we sand and then apply a borate treatment for pest control.
The logs were caulked using Permachink's Energy Seal and backer rod was used in the needed areas. The log home received two coats of a penetrating stain, while the deck and rails received one coat, which is guaranteed not to flake or peel. A warm butternut brown was the perfect color for this log home and the end result was beautiful.
"Stu and the crew were very knowledgeable about the products used and I was very impressed with their attention to detail. The log cabin looks great, the crew was polite, professional and worked very hard".
