Our TLCR crew had the pleasure of traveling to Smithfield, NC for a complete log home restoration for our friend Vicki. Vicki had a bad experience with a crew from another restoration company two year’s prior and was a bit nervous. Our crew began working and in no time Vicki felt calm and confident!
The customer said this about our service, “I was very worried about the crew working on my home, 2 years ago I had a bad experience with a work crew who did not work professionally. Stew was there to reassure me and the end results were great. My home looks new home again and I couldn’t be happier.” – Vicki G.
As always, our professional TLCR team carefully prepped the home by covering all the entry ways with a plastic sheet. All the gutter downspouts were carefully removed and set aside to be re-attached after the stain application. TLC removed all the old debris, dirt, mold and product from all the logs. Our crew only uses a psi of 800 to gently rinse off the logs without damage. A neutralizer is applied to brighten the wood and better accept any new product. The rinsing step is the most important step. If too much water enters the logs, the stain may prematurely fail. The pH level must remain around 7% and the wood must be completely dry. After the logs are dry, each log is sanded down to achieve a smooth even finish.
At Total Log Cabin Restoration, we only use the highest grade of Borate Treatment. TLCR used Perma-Chink's Shell- Guard RTU and Bee Gone to combat against beetles and other insects that love to attack and eat wood. Shell-Guard RTU is a great product that is colorless, odorless with a very low level of toxicity to people and pets. Plus, is very effective for preventing wood decay and insect damage. Next, TLCR used Perma-Chink's Energy Seal to caulk the log home. Energy Seal is a caulking made specifically for log homes and is designed to prevent water from entering and damaging the logs. Energy Seal also helps with the energy loss and aids in bug prevention. Backer rod was used to prevent the caulking from cracking and pulling away from the home. Before the stain was applied, TLCR checks the moisture count in the wood. Then two coats of Perma-Chink stain were applied to the logs, siding, and windows. After the stain dried, TLCR applied two coats of Perma-Chink's Clear Coat to logs. Perma-Chink is a 4-coat system that comes with the best protection, is $1000.00 less and is guaranteed never to peel or flake.
